The Italian architect Giovanni Lavarra coined the term "post-it city" to refer to a "functional apparatus of the contemporary city which is involved with the dynamics of public life outside conventional channels."
Using this concept of the post-it city, in 2005 Marti Peran of the UAB initiated a research and archive project in Barcelona, inviting artists, architects and urban planners to participate. The project grew to encompass many international researchers as we explored different temporary occupations of public space all over the world, with the common characteristic that the occupations barely leave a trace, and self-manage their appearances and disappearances (see links page).
I worked on two archives in the project, 'La Ciudad Jubilada' (#055) and 'Denver, Glasgow, Morelia, Roma' (#069). In 2008, 'Post-it City/Ciutats Ocasionals' was exhibited in the Center for Contemporary Culture in Barcelona, Spain.
